Herbstakademie 2024 - Digital Music Production: From iPad to VR

Herbstakademie 2024 took place from 16 to 18 October, 2024. The Herbstakademie is a cooperation for the promotion of particularly talented, interested, curious and high-performing pupils, in which currently the participating schools from the Osnabrück area are active together with the University, the University of Applied Sciences and Pupils Research Center SFZ Osnabrück as well as the city and the district of Osnabrück.

As part of the Herbstakademie 2024, eight students worked for three days in the IMM recording studio and the MTDML lab on the topic of "Digital Music Production: From iPad to VR." As an introduction, various types of microphones and the basics of DAW work were discussed. Following on from this, musical ideas could be explored using tablets and experiments with sounds could be carried out on an individual basis. Subsequently, in the area of recording and producing, own recordings were planned, recorded and post-processed. In line with this, the young people were able to create their own music video using professional cameras, gimbals and editing software. Finally, they combined image and sound and discussed and finalized the product together. As a preview of future possibilities in music and media production, the course was able to try out virtual instruments with VR glasses. The independent final presentation of the process and the results took place at the Kreishaus Osnabrück.
